Passings: Renato Meiohas
Renato Meiohas, 54, director of sales for AGM’s U.S. operations, passed away in Torino, Italy, on July 30 after suffering from Cruetzfeldt Jakob Disease, a rare brain ailment.
Born in Torino on August 20, 1949, he moved to the United States in 1987.
As director of sales at AGM in Pineville, N.C., Meiohas was an integral partner. He established his reputation in the glass industry by selling many CNC machines to fabricators; he then became involved in the stone industry in the early 1990’s with the Intermac and Comandulli line of machinery.
During the subsequent years, he set up a solid network of salespeople to cover the entire North American market. He was also instrumental in establishing the present AGM subsidiary structure with 5 locations throughout the US and Canada.
Before joining AGM, Meiohas served as North American sales manager for Bottero SPA, an Italian glass machinery manufacturer.
In Charlotte, he met and married Yoko Kurobe, with whom he later had two children. He and his family were members of Temple Israel in Charlotte.
Meiohas and his family had recently moved to Tenafly, N.J., to open a new office for AGM.
His many interests included traveling, skiing, running, parachuting, rally-car racing and motorcycling. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Meiohas is survived by his wife; his children, Chiara and Davide; his mother, Renata Meiohas; brothers Daniele and Moreno; and his sisters Manuela and Iardena.
Services were held August 4 in Torino, Italy.
