• The Marble Institute of America recognized Joseph Kapcheck, president of J. Kapcheck & Co. in Des Plaines, Ill., with the 2004 Migliore Award for Lifetime Achievement. Kapcheck, noted in the award for “his extraordinary contributions to the natural-stone industry,” served as MIA’s president in 1999. The award is named for Vincent R. Migliore, a world-renowned stone expert and MIA’s technical director from 1997-2003.
• Keystone Tools Co. recently opened a new retail store in Anaheim, Calif. The Los Angeles tool-and-equipment distributor also added service trucks in Oregon and Texas.
• Robert Smith, a lead installer and field supervisor at Great Lakes Granite and Marble in Redford, Mich, won the 2004 Migliore Natural Stone Education Scholarship from the Marble Institute of America Inc. (MIA). The scholarship paid Smith’s travel and registration expenses to attend StonExpo 2004 in Los Angeles in late October.
