Carrara Contest Closing Soon
CARRARA, Italy – There’s still time to enter the Marble Architecture Awards 2003/North America to be handed out in June at the Carrara Marmotec trade event, but the deadline’s getting closer.
Entry notification slips for the awards, organized by the Internazionale Marmi e Macchine Carrara (IMM) and the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE), need to be at IMM’s office in Marina di Carrara, Italy, by Feb. 15. Companies that file the slip to show their intention to enter a project will then receive a submission binder, with all materials due by April 10.
Entries need to be any work of architecture in North America, completed between Jan. 1, 1990, and Dec. 31, 2002, that’s the work of architects, designers or planners registered with a nationally recognized professional body. The awards competition is open to works from the United States, Canada and Mexico; anyone playing a major role in the stone work (including property owners and fabricators) can provide an entry, but the award only goes to the architect/designer of record.
Awards are given in four sections:
• External facings in private or public residential or non-residential buildings;
• Interior design in private or public residential or non-residential buildings;
• Urban landscape areas or communal areas in residential, commercial or office districts; and
• Interior design in private and residential constructions only (such as homes and apartments).
The awards from the Carrara event focus on a different part of the world annually; since the contest runs on a six-year cycle, North American entries won’t be eligible again until 2009. The competition is also supported by the Marble Institute of America.
