OSHA and EPA? A Quick Quiz
Think you’re ready to face the inspections for OSHA and EPA? Ask yourselves these questions (and remember that every “no” that you answer will cost you):
• How do you store your chemicals? (Yes, even latex paint is considered a “chemical.”)
• Do you store your LP gas tanks in a secured area so that a vehicle backing up will not hit or knock them over, potentially causing a fire hazard?
• Do you have a fireproof area – such as a metal storage locker or concrete-blocked revetment – for the storage of flammable liquids and solids such as alcohol, acetone, and MEK solution?
• Are your electrical cords OSHA-compliant with no cuts or frayed ends?
• Is your main electrical service box clearly marked and is there a 5’ perimeter in all directions marked on the floor in high-visibility yellow?
• Do you have GFI circuit breakers on all of your electrical outlets?
• Are your fire extinguishers marked, charged and accessible?
• Do you have ENOUGH fire extinguishers for the size of your building?
• Do you have a “Fire Emergency Escape Plan” posted in multiple areas for all personnel to view and understand in case of an emergency?
• Are you and/or any of your employees certified in CPR and Basic First Aid?
• Do you have a current stocked First Aid Kit or KITS in your facility?
