MIA Starts Monthly Shop-Safety Service (May 6)
The MIA Safety Toolbox Talk Subscription Service delivers a new e-packet each month, designed to help facilitate a face-to-face company sales meetings – as well as providing information to create ongoing, on-the-job safety training.
Designed for companies of all sizes, the monthly deliveries include:
• A Toolbox Talk outline addressing a recent accident which occurred in the stone industry, along with recommendations (drawn from OSHA investigations) on how to avoid a similar occurrence.
• A second Toolbox Talk outline on stone-industry-safety “best practices.”
• A safety checklist with recommended tasks for any stone company’s safety program, corresponding to that month’s Toolbox Talk topics.
•. A sign-in sheet to document attendance at each safety meeting, for OSHA purposes and company records.
• A safety-product feature highlighting a product or service available to assist companies with ongoing safety efforts.
The program comes from the MIA’s Toolbox Talk Committee, a subcommittee of the MIA Safety Committee.
Chad Vadnais, safety manager at Daltile and chairman of the safety committee, said, “These Toolbox Talks should be a major training component for every company that moves stone slabs by crane, forklift or other means,” says Chad Vadnais, safety manager at Daltile and MIA Safety Committee chair. “Each and every Toolbox Talk has been reviewed and utilized by the individual members of MIA’s Safety Committee.”
In order to promote safety within the stone industry and encourage companies to conduct monthly safety meetings, the MIA is offering the first month (May 2011) of this service for free. For more information on an ongoing subscription, contact the MIA’s Mike Loflin.
