Advanced Concrete Course Set (May 5)
“Water, Light & Fire: Advanced Three-Dimensional Concrete” on June 22-25 will include instruction in a wide range of advanced techniques, including fiber optics, fire pits, water features, fabric forming and vessel/ramp sinks.
In the course – limited to 12 students – hands-on projects include a vertical water feature incorporating fiber optics, an outdoor fire pit and a fabric-formed sink using Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) and rapid-setting cements. Class projects will be raffled for students to take home.
“This class is designed to get concrete countertop professionals out of the ‘slabs on boxes’ mentality of granite and other traditional countertop materials –, to stop competing with those materials and realize the full potential of concrete,” says Jeff Girard, CCI president and instructor for the new class. “With the confidence to create concrete works of art using all the elements – water, light and fire – students can realize the full potential of concrete as well as the maximum profitability for their businesses.”
The class tuition of $2895 includes the hotel room, breakfast and lunch as well as a party on the first night.
Enrollees will be interviewed beforehand to confirm experience level and aptitude. Prior experience in GFRC is preferred, but candidates who are accepted to the Advanced class may take a free GFRC refresher course (“GFRC Crash Course”) on June 21.
Also available is a free, one-day Sealer Training session on June 20. The June 20 and June 21 courses are open-enrollment, with the Sealer Training being free and the GFRC Crash Course costing $287.
