German Stonemasons Win 2011 Peter Parler Award (April 14)
It’s also intended to encourage the trade to become more-involved in historic preservation, and apply the principles and quality standards applicable to official historic preservation.
“The trade which originally carried out the work should also restore it,” says Dr. Gottfried Kiesow of the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz, which provides €15,000 euros for prize money every two years.
This year’s jury included Kiesow, Carola Nathan (Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz and chief editor of monumente magazine for historic preservation), Prof. Dr. Rolf Snethlage, Dr. Arndt Kiesewetter (State Office for Historic Preservation, Saxony), Peter Reiner (freelance architect), Gustav Treulieb (Master of the federal guild of German stonemasons) and restorer Ulrich Bauer-Bornemann (winner of the Peter Parler Award in 2009).
The award winners will receive their prizes at a ceremony on June 23 at Stone+tec 2011 in at the Exhibition Centre in Nuremberg.
