Dale Tile Acquires Pollux
The transaction closed June 30. Terms of deal weren’t disclosed.
The deal gives Dale Tile, an employee- and family-owned tile and stone business (and not affiliated with Dallas-based DalTile), the automated-workflow production facilities of Pollux. Minneapolis-based Pollux produces a variety of man-made (such as DuPont Zodiaq®) and natural-stone surfaces for the mass market, including major retailers such as Home Depot.
Pollux will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Dale Tile and will operate as Pollux LLC under its current management team. All Pollux plant employees have been rehired by Dale Tile.
Minnesota Tile & Stone, a custom natural-stone fabrication company and ceramic-tile distribution firm also owned by Dale Tile, will relocate its fabrication facility to the Pollux plant in Minneapolis.
Pollux’s sister company, Hallmark Building Supplies of Waukesha, Wis., will focus its resources solely on its growing marketing and distribution business for DuPont™ Corian® Zodiaq and Tyvek®, plus and Nichiha fiber cement products.
“Since being awarded more territory for our surfaces business, we knew we had to divest Pollux to commit all of our resources to our core business of distribution,” says Joe Balthazor, Hallmark CEO and Pollux’s founder. “Pollux will continue to be a partner of ours just as before, supporting their Zodiaq custom fabrication. We look forward to a continued strong relationship between our two companies.”
Pollux – the name is based in Greek mythology – began production of Zodiaq tops in February 2004, a year after the company’s founding. The company, operating strictly as a trade-only wholesale shop, also fabricated natural stone on its continuous production line based on equipment from Langenaltheim, Germany-based Löffler Maschinenbau GmbH.
Alan Dale, CEO of Dale Tile, says the transaction gives his organization new manufacturing capabilities and an expanded product line.
“We are delighted to welcome such an excellent team and add not only expanded product offerings, but a first-rate manufacturing facility to our family of companies,” said Alan Dale, president. “The addition of Pollux opens the doors to new market potential and increased growth opportunities.”
