3 Stone Items Win At Coverings
A lightweight limestone panel, a quartz panel and a point-of-sales stone database made their marks on industry judges in the inaugural Coverings Select competition.
In the Natural Stone category, Neocantera Board S.A. de C.V.of Mexico City stood out with its Light Stone Wall Neocantera, a natural limestone-faced product offered in 4” X 8” X 5/8”, 100-lbs panels in three colors (piñon, black and pink). The non-flammable panels is non-flammable and UV-resistant, offers superior acoustic insulation and can be fixed to a variety of surfaces using common construction tools and screws/adhesives.
With the Other/Engineered Stone category, Shine Import Export Inc. of Chicago won the category with NISA Jade Stone, a crystallized quartz/jade/pigment/kaolin panel available in 59” X 118” slabs in thicknesses of 3cm, 1.8cm and 1.2cm. Offered in four colors (white, black, dark brown and light brown) and three finishes (polished, honed and leathered), the material contains high flexural strength and can be worked with stone-fabrication tools
Quebec City-based Polycor Inc. took the honors in the Other/Marketing Tool category with its Pierre Habitat Next-Generation Spec Tool, with a box-set portfolio and embedded touch screen. It’s also highly adaptable for customizing client presentations; the software includes upload capability and high-resolution formatting. Pierre Habitat uses a Windows Mobile OS compatible with PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
All products were judged on April 27 by a panel of industry professionals on attributes of quality, versatility, design, and sustainability. Judges included Chris Abbate, Ceramic Tiles of Italy; Eric Astrachan, Tile Council of North America; Kelly Betts, interior designer for HOK Architects; Cathy Carver, principal interior designer for Walt Disney Imagineering; Amanda Eden, Tile of Spain; Angela Hinton, L2 Studios; Stacy Straczynski, associate editor of Contract magazine; and Julie Volosin, vice president of HKS Architects Inc.
