MIA Dimension Stone Manual Updated
CLEVELAND – Three updated chapters of the Marble Institute of America’s Dimension Stone Design Manual (DSDM), detailing standards on surfaces and installations set to go into effect Jan. 1, are now available.
The chapters – General Installation, Horizontal Surfaces and Vertical Surfaces – were reviewed and updated by MIA’s technical department and the DSDM’s technical committee. The changes now constitute Version 7.1 of the DSDM.
The revisions address a number of areas, including:
• a revised section of suitable backing materials;
• an expanded section on mortar types;
• an updated reference list for Tile Council of North America (TCNA) methods for application of natural stone;
• improved clarification of tile-setting methods with references to ASNI/TCNA documents;
• clarification of required conditioning for concrete-substrate floors;
• recommendations for test-data currency; and
• an updated discussion of anchorage metallurgy.
The DSDM Version 7.1 also includes updated graphics in all sections.
Updates are priced at $29.95 for MIA members, $34.95 for architects and $99.95 for anyone else; all are available in printed form, PDFs delivered by email or CD-ROM. (The CD-ROM is the complete DSDM, including the revised chapters.)
A combination printed copy/CD-ROM package of DSDM 7.1 is available to MIA members for $109; architects can purchase it for $169, and the price to the general public is $349.
All revisions will be shipped early next month.
