StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas 2009: Exhibition

To be sure, there are plenty of standard presentations with StonExpo’s educational program (“Learn More, Earn More,” September 2009 Stone Business). And the Stone Fabricators Alliance (SFA) also a full line of hour-long demonstrations set for viewing on the show floor with Stone LIVE! for free, including:

• Templating, at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 22, offers the proper protocol for achieving a perfect, error-free template each and every time, regardless of whether it’s Luan or digital, with Brian Briggs and Matt Rickard.

• Laminating and Edge Polishing, at 1 p.m. on Oct. 22, features Scott McGourley, Eli Polite and Scott Weinbrecht showing how to produce practically invisible lamination lines, precise bookmatching and more by demonstrating multiple tips and tricks.

• Material Handling, at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, offers several ways to reinforce the ever-fragile sink bridge, properly brace, support and transport your finished product, with Mike Law and Dan Riccolo.

• Sink Mounting, at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 23, brings back Polite with Kent Potter for different methods to hang cast-iron sinks, porcelain vanities, kitchen sinks and more. They will discuss the pros and cons of each method.

• Sealers, Cleaners and Glues features Cameron DeMille and Nick Patrona at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23 with an overview of the many chemicals stone professionals use on a daily basis, including the different types of sealers on the market as well as the right glue for specific applications.

• Top Polishing, Seam Phantom at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 offers how to properly prepare the stone, set and bond the joint and ultimately top polish to create the perfect seam, all with Kris Jorgensen.

• Repair and Restoration, at 11 a.m. on Oct. 24, again features DeMille and McGourley detailing more on the art of stone restoration: scratch repair, top polishing, etc.

• Shower Floor and Wall Installation rounds out Stone LIVE! on Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. with Joe Little and Dustin Braudway showing how to properly set slab walls and floors, fasten the panels to the walls, set the seams, and create the proper floor pitch.

StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas 2009 also offers StonExchange, a series of 30-minute presentations located on the show floor, on a variety of business topics, including:

• Funding the National Stone Council’s Future – How to Continue the Critical Work on Branding, Promotion and Sustainability, in a special 45-minute session at noon on Oct. 22.

• How Concrete Countertops Can Set Your Business Apart, 2:30 p.m., Oct 22.

• Home Approved Stone – The Stone Industry’s Solution to Radon/Radiation in Granite, 12 noon, Oct. 23.

• Diversify Your Business with Stone Carving, 2:30 p.m., Oct. 23.

• Taking Full Advantage of the Marble Institute of America (MIA), 12:30 p.m., Oct. 24.

MIA members can stand easy and relax among friends at the Gala Reception on Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.; the members-only gathering includes hors d’oeuvres and beverages. and lots of door prizes.

The MIA also holds its annual awards luncheon at noon on Oct. 23, with the group’s annual meeting following at 1:30 p.m.

The trade exhibits will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Oct. 22-23, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Oct. 24.
