Haas Leaves Federal Custody

Haas pled guilty in 2007 to one of 11 charges involving a false-invoicing scheme cited in a lengthy indictment by federal prosecutors. He entered the low-security Lompoc, Calif., Federal Correctional Institution in January of last year, moving in November to the Vinewood Re-Entry Center in Long Beach, Calif., according to the Ventura County Star.

While at Lompoc, Haas completed federal substance-abuse treatment for alcohol dependence, making him eligible for the move to a halfway house and early release. Haas’ guilty plea led to a sentence of up to two years in federal prison and $75 million in restitution and fines, which have been paid.

Haas will be on supervised release until this November. The Star noted that Hass will have some financial restrictions as part of his probation, and may only travel out of the Los Angeles area with a federal district-court judge’s permission.

Haas received permission to attend NASCAR races for the remainder of the year. Haas co-owns Kannapolis, N.C.-based Stewart-Haas Racing LLC with NASCAR driver Tony Stewart.
