• Marmo Machinery USA announces its Fifth Annual Summer Machine Open House on June 29 at its Southfield, Mich., headquarters. The event will display a representative sample of Marmo Machinery’s major equipment segments, including bridge saws, polishers, CNC machines and water reclamation/dust intake equipment. In addition, attendees will be treated to a free Detroit Tigers/Minnesota Twins baseball game that night.
• Global Granite & Marble opens a new 10,000 ft² stone selection center in Peoria. Ill., with David Brotherton as general manager. The facility is the fourth location for St. Louis-based Global, and will serve the Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin markets; it will eventually showcase more than 600 slabs in 140 colors.
• The National Training Center for the Masonry Trades (NTC) completed its new state-of-the-art hands-on fabrication training facility in May after a three-month build-out. The Sanford, Fla., facility gained a 50-percent expansion in training space, creating a production-ready linear layout with unfinished slabs entering on one end and completed counters exiting the building.
• Questech receives three 2007 Awards for Design Excellence (ADEX) in the Kitchen and Bath category. The honors for the Rutland, Vt.-based company, sponsored by Design Journal magazine, include Platinum ADEXs for its Tumbled Marble with Q-Seal™ and the cast metal Dorset Fruit Bowl Mural, plus a Gold ADEX for its Cast Stone Switchplate.
• Sakrete® made a $3,000 donation to Operation DVD, a nonprofit organization collecting DVDs to send to American soldiers for off-duty entertainment. The donation from the Charlotte, N.C.-based dry-cement company helps secure postage charges, additional donation resources and more DVDs to support the effort; operation DVD is a program sanctioned by American Veterans (AMVETS), which collects and ships new or used DVDs to establish video libraries on military bases.
