• Stone Storage Solutions (SSS) acquired BLS Enterprises in mid-September and moved the customer service, design, manufacturing and shipping operations to Middleborough, Mass. “The acquisition of BLS allows Stone Storage Solutions to take a great product line and take it to the next step,” says Robert Moroney, SSS president.
• Universal Laser Systems Inc. doubles the size of its Vienna, Austria, operating office, adding a new demonstration and training area. The facility handles dealers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based maker of laser-engraving and -cutting systems.
• Cambria donated 260 ft² of its quartz surfaces as part of the remodeling of the Indiana Governor’s Residence in Indianapolis. The product, valued at $21,000, was installed in kitchens, bathrooms, a business center and several window sills throughout the structure. Cambria opened a 58,000 ft² fabrication facility in Indianapolis in 2004.
• Good Housekeeping awarded CaesarStone its Good Housekeeping Seal in late summer. The designation is given to products evaluated and approved by the Good Housekeeping Research Institute; the seal guarantees a refund or replacement on any product found to be defective within two years from the date of purchase.
• Opustone Granite & Marble is now operating a Jacksonville, Fla., outlet with a 3,200 ft² showroom and 15,000 ft² warehouse. Opustone also operates stone facilities at its Miami headquarters.
• Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue made a late August swing through Elberton, Ga., visiting Eagle Granite and other facilities. Perdue, running for re-election in November, noted that 130 stone-related businesses in Elberton and surrounding Elbert County account for $59 million in annual revenue.
• CaesarStone will open a San Francisco showroom this month. The facility, designed by architect Dan Brunn, will service architects and design professionals in Northern California.
