KMT Gets Aqua-Dyne

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – KMT (Karolin Machine Tool AB) acquired Houston-based Aqua-Dyne, a manufacturer of high-pressure waterjet systems and accessories, early last month for $10 million.

 The acquisition gives KMT access to a new growing market segment with significant potential, according to the company, and will create synergies with KMT Waterjet Systems Inc. of Baxter Springs, Kan. Aqua-Dyne will be a part of the Waterjet Cutting Product Area for the Stockholm-based waterjet, grinding and cutting implements company.

Salem Stone Still Doing Well

ORLANDO – If Coverings is any indication of Salem Stone’s progress, the company’s doing just fine.

 At a press conference at the end of the event’s first day, Mike Willard, Salem sales/marketing vice president, noted that the Winston-Salem, N.C., company toted up $3 million in sales at last year’s event, and business was brisk for Coverings 2006.

We’ve all seen the scenario: A general contractor tells you that he has 50 units for you to work on, so you should be able to lower your price. What you lose in mark-up, he say, you make up for on volume. Or, he has plenty of friends; if you give him a deal today, he’ll tell all of his friends.

Why do you not hear true stone guys recommending applications of commercial finishes – waxes – on installations? Are we just out to cheat the janitorial companies out of making a living, or do we have a personal vendetta against finish companies?
