People - June 2005

 • VIC International Corp. appoints Michael B. White to the sales staff and market development for the stone fabrication division. He comes to the Powell, Tenn., distributor after serving as sales manager for Sawing Systems Inc.
  • Trotec Laser Inc. (TLI) of Ypsilanti, Mich., adds Don Mayhew and Graphic & Engraving Solutions Inc. of Norcross, Ga., to cover the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Also, John Bain of Trotec Laser – Deep South will represent TLI in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle; and Kraig Shetler and Shetler Inc. of Hillsborough, N.J., will represent TLI in eastern New York State, New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.

  • Mike Salinger and Al Benoliel join Alpha Professional Tools® in the new positions of regional sales managers; both have extensive sales and sales-management experience within the industry. Also in sales, the Wycoff, N.J.-based company also hires Al Ellis, with 20 years of experience in the diamond-tool and equipment industry, for the south territory of Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi; Dick Hargett, with 11 years in the tile-and-stone industry, for the southeast territory of Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama; and Mike O’Coin, with 18 years’ experience in the power-tools and diamond-blade industry, for the New England territory of Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and eastern New York state, as well as the province of Québec.
  • Kevin M. Padden, well-known seminar presenter and writer on natural stone industry topics, joins the Marble Institute of America (MIA) as a training specialist. Additionally, he will conduct on-location seminar training and on-site consultations for MIA member companies.
  • STONEXPRESS appoints Bill Reid as executive vice president of sales & marketing.  A flooring industry professional for 23 years, including 16 years with Florida Tile Industries, Reid brings a strong background to the Decatur, Ga.-based stone distributor.
  • Rick Dilts fills the new position of vice president of sales and marketing at Dakota Granite Co. Dilts previously worked as a sales representative and marketing director for the Milbank, S.D., quarrier. Also, Bill Ruoff, an 18-year Dakota employee, is the new commercial sales director; Mark McCulloch, an 11-year sales representative for Dakota, succeeds Ruoff as memorial sales director. Rich Creadon is national cemetery sales representative; and Marge Boerger receives a promotion to customer-service coordinator.

   • KMT Waterjet Systems appoints Wiktor Stepien as vice president of sales and marketing, responsible for all sales, marketing, customer service, and technical service departments for the Baxter Springs, Kan., company. Stepien previously served as European sales manager for KMT Waterjet Systems GmbH in Bad Nauheim, Germany; he’s worked for KMT since 1998.
   • Johnny E. Blalock is the new director of purchasing for VIC International Corp. Before joining the Knoxville, Tenn., national distributor/supplier, Blalock worked as a buyer-planner with Sea Ray in Knoxville.

The site includes a database with 279 Italian materials, noting commercial and current names, geographical identification, chromatic and physical-mechanical features and technical descriptions
  • Haas Automation Inc. saw the 50,000th Haas CNC machine tool– a SL-20APL CNC turning center with automatic parts loader – roll off the production line February 16. Bearing a commemorative plaque, the machine went to Western Saw of Oxnard, Calif.
  • CaesarStone opened an Astoria, N.Y. office, warehouse and showroom on March 1. The 40,000 ft² facility features a showroom, state-of-the-art warehouse, and corporate offices; the office, located at 36-16 19th Ave., is open M-F from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; the phone is 718-777.9780.

   • Cosentino’s Silestone® natural-quartz surface recently garnered the coveted Platinum ADEX Award (Awards for Design Excellence), one of the most-prestigious awards programs in the design industry. An anonymous panel of professionals representing a cross section of the design industry conducts all voting for the honors.
   • Richel Inc. will hold its Waterjet Cutting Techniques Course on May 15-17 and July 17-19 at its corporate offices in Kent, Ohio. The sessions include hands-on work in preparing and programming jobs, running a system and performing maintenance.
   • ETemplate Systems received the Associate Member Award from the International Solid Surface Fabricators Association (ISSFA) during the group’s annual membership meeting in Las Vegas in early March. The Raleigh, N.C.-based division of Tri-Tech Solutions Inc. won the honor based on criteria of making the most-significant contribution to ISSFA and the solid-surface industry in providing exceptional products and support, outstanding ISSFA support and participation in ISSFA-sponsored educational programs.
