StonExpo 2011: Exhibition
The 2011 version, on Jan 25-27, joins up with the long-running Surfaces show at a well-known location of past editions of StonExpo: the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on The Strip in Las Vegas.
The stone industry will feel right at home, as the event continues with its tradition of seminars, workshops, presentations and exhibits to meet the needs of fabricators, installers and others allied to the trade.
Plenty of opportunities abound on the trade-show floor, as the Stone Fabricators Alliance (SFA) offers a full line of hour-long demonstrations with the free Stone LIVE! series.
The presentations kick off at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 with Kris Jorgensen offering Seaming for the proper preparation of stone, setting and bonding the joint to create the perfect seam. Seaming repeats at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 27.
Jorgensen also presents Top Polishing at 1 p.m. on Jan. 25, with how to finish the perfect seam to the point that it’s undetectable to the touch. He’ll also give Top Polishing a second run at 1 p.m. on Jan. 27.
With Scratch Repair at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, Cameron DeMille focuses on the art of restoration of stone surfaces. He’ll show how to deal with various types of scratches and inclusions, including the combinations of adhesives and techniques to make the repair undetectable. Scratch Repair repeats at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 26.
Dan Riccolo takes on Textured Materials at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 26, showing how to texture any slab in-house, primarily using tools fabricators already have. He’ll show hand-techniques such as leathering and caressing in achieving the perfect textured finish.
Also on Jan. 26, Eli Polite and Eddie Blanco present Sealing and Chemical Care at 1 p.m. They’ll provide an overview of the many chemicals stone professionals use on a daily basis, and discuss different types of sealers and cleaning agents on the market – as well as the right glue for specific applications.
The latest version of StonExpo also includes the popular StonExchange series, starting on Jan. 25 at 2:30 p.m. with Providing CEUs to Architects & Interior Designers About Natural Stone with James Hieb of the Marble Institute of America (MIA). The half-hour session will showcase how to provide continuing-education units (CEUs) to the design community, and how to start giving presentations.
