Minnesota Rocks! Leaves Its Mark
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The efforts of 14 stone carvers participating in Minnesota Rocks!, the International Stone Carving Symposium, will find homes throughout the state’s capital city.
“The work these artists are producing is absolutely extraordinary,” said Christine Podas-Larson, president of Public Art Saint Paul. “They are leaving an amazing legacy for St. Paul and for our partner cities in this event, St. Anthony and Vadnais Heights.”
The artists carved sculptures from Minnesota stone from May 22-June 30 on the lawn of Saint Paul College. At least 13 sculptures will be distributed in public places throughout St..Paul, while two pieces will be installed outside in St. Anthony and Vadnais Heights.
The fourteen artists of Minnesota Rocks! worked with stone donated by Minnesota quarries, including dolomitic limestone from Vetter Stone Co.; Kasota limestone from Mankato-Kasota Stone Co.; granite from Cold Spring Granite Co.; Oneota dolomite from Biesanz Stone Co.; and Stromatolite from Cliff’s Natural Stone. Waite Park, Minn-based Granite City Tool Co. supplied most of the tools.
